First 10: A Moment With Frances Kai-Hwa Wang

V3con is happy to highlight the First 10 People to Register for the conference on August 24-25 in Los Angeles. Prominent blogger Frances Kai-Hwa Wang is one of our Top 10. She is a second-generation Chinese American from California who now divides her time between Michigan and the Big Island of Hawaii. She is a contributor for New America Media’s EthnoblogChicagoistheWorld.orgPacificCitizen.org, and InCultureParent.com. She was the arts and culture editor of IMDiversity.com Asian American Village for many years, and she now team-teaches Asian Pacific American History and the Law at the University of Michigan and University of Michigan Dearborn. Check out her two blogs RememberingVincentChin.com and franceskaihwawang.blogspot.com.
Lets get to know her better:

How did you hear about V3con?
I heard about V3con from the one and only jozjozjoz! (after months of me pestering her, “When is it going to be?!!”)

What are your expectations for the conference?
Community, spirit, rejuvenation, nothing short of unbridled awesomeness.

Who do you hope to meet?
Jeff Yang, the OG of APA bloggers, who I somehow haven’t actually met IRL yet. And Beau Sia who is just so handsome. <3

What tips do you have for effective networking?
Walk with your url forward. So many people are better known by their urls and blog names than their real names.

Which bloggers, online journalists and social media communicators do you follow?
Angry Asian Man Phil Yu of course, JozJozJoz, Nikkei View Gil Asakawa, Lac Su, Original Spin Jeff Yang, Disgrasian Jen Wang, Thick Dumpling Skin Lisa Lee, Kai Ma, Cynthia Liu, Harry Lin, TaiwaneseAmerican.org Hochie Tsai, Cynthia Brothers, Bao Phi, Beau Sia, Kelly Tsai, Dawen, Andrew Lam, Sandip Roy, Emil Amok Guillermo, New America Media, 8 Asians, Hyphen, Koream, YOMYOMF, Giant Robot, Kate Agathon, Oliver Wang, Larry Shinagawa, Scott Kurashige, Greg Watanabe, WatermelonSushi Yayoi Lena Winfrey, AbsolutelyFobulous, AALDEF, Asian Law Caucus, JACL, OCA, AAWW, 18 Mighty Mountain Warriors, and more. Lots more. Who in APA media don’t I follow?

Would you recommend the conference to friends and others in your network?
YES! I have been telling everyone to go for months! years! My whole life changed after the first incarnation of V3con and I wasn’t even there…
